Here you will find information about a great deal of carnivorous plants. I have personally kept all the species and varieties listed and this is an effort to share some of my experiences.

Carnivorous plants live almost anywhere on the planet and come in all sizes, colours and shapes. Hence, it is possible to keep carnivorous plants in both the windowsill, green house and even outdoors as long as you consider the species suitable to the environment provided. The majority of these plants are endangered in the wild and suffering from heavy declines in numbers. It is, thus, by no means allowed to collect wild plants or otherwise interfere with wild populations. All my plants are propagated from seeds or plant material from cultivated plants. When this is said it is still a great experience watching some of these plants in the wild and sure worth the while if you have the chance.

Dionaea muscipula

Dionaea muscipula (Venus Flytrap)

Dionaea muscipula also better known as the Venus Flytrap is probably the best known and most sought after of the carnivorous plants. Keeping Dionaea muscipula (venus flytrap) is relatively easy if you give pay attention to its needs – especially is a winter dormancy important. It can even be placed outside year round with a minimal of winter protection

- Probably one of the most fascinating and exciting species. Suited for the garden or greenhouse

Drosera Drosera (Sundew)

This is a large group of carnivorous plants with more than 194 species and new ones continuously being added. This group has species almost everywhere on the planet in extremely various climates. So it should be possible to find species suited to your exact needs. Keeping Drosera (sundews) is often easy, but there are exceptions.

- A very diverse group with species for all – beginner and experienced
Heliamphora Heliamphora (Sun pitchers)

This is a fascinating and challenging small group of carnivorous plants endemic to South America. There are about 30 species within this genus and new ones are being found regular in these years. They are often found above 500 meters at hardly accessible plateaus in the mountains. Keeping Heliamphora (sun pitchers)can be difficult as they require a lot of light combined with low temperatures and high humidity.

- A lot of fascinating and beautiful species, but can be tricky to keep
Nepenthes

Nepenthes (Pitcher plants)

Nepenthes is a genus with around 140 species, the first one (Nepenthes madagascariensis) being described in 1658. It is one of the most spectacular carnivorous plants groups and also one of my favourites. They are often divided in 2-3 groups depending on the altitude level in which they appear (highland, intermediate, lowland). This also has great importance for how to keep Nepenthes (pitcher plants).

- Large and showy species where some can even be kept in the windowsill and outside

Pinguicula

Pinguicula (Vibefedt)
