Recently, there has been increased attention on various species of springtails, especially those with distinctive colors. This includes this red springtail, which was first discovered by science in 1981.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is kept much like the common white\/colorless springtails (\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.apieceofnature.dk\/products\/springhaler-folsomia-candida-1-botte\" title=\"Folsomia candida\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eFolsomia candida\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e), but differs by being somewhat larger and, of course, red. Furthermore, these springtails do not jump! Care can be a bit more difficult, however. In the terrarium, they should have dead wood, withered leaves, and pieces of bark to hide under. The substrate must be kept moist and must not dry out.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e- It is a perfect species to keep in terrariums as a cleanup crew (\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.apieceofnature.dk\/blogs\/nyheder\/bioaktivt-terrarium\" title=\"Bioaktivt terrarium\"\u003ebioactive terrarium\u003c\/a\u003e)\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey can also be cultured in isolation as a separate colony. Some cultivate them in coconut humus, others in pure activated charcoal. We have successfully cultivated them ourselves in \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.apieceofnature.dk\/products\/aktivt-kul-3-l\" title=\"Aktivt kul\"\u003eactivated charcoal\u003c\/a\u003e, \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.apieceofnature.dk\/products\/terrariejord\" title=\"Terrariejord\"\u003eterrarium soil\u003c\/a\u003e, and unfertilized sphagnum moss. Currently, we are experimenting with keeping them in clay pieces mixed with sand.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFeed with fish flakes and dry yeast.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eNote:\u003c\/strong\u003e Red springtails \"hide\" a bit more than normal springtails. They will often be found under pieces of bark or down in the substrate.
