FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Below you can find answers to some of the most common questions. If you have a question that is not on the list, you are very welcome to contact us.

Plants

Is there a warranty on plants?

We guarantee that your plants will arrive in whole and good condition. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that the plant will survive over a longer period, as we do not know how the plant is cared for after it has left us

Can plants be sent by mail?

yes - we are happy to ship plants by mail and ensure that they are securely packed.

My plant has pests, what do I do?

Pests on plants are unfortunately something that occurs every now and then. However, it is important not to panic.

The vast majority of pests can be treated with Neem oil. Neem oil is absorbed by the plant, and the pest therefore ingests it when they "eat" from the plant.

It can often be a good idea to get the pest on the plant identified. It may possibly help with the treatment.

What do I do with my plants during the winter?

Most exotic plants unfortunately do not tolerate frost. The best storage during winter is a bright room at 7-10 degrees Celsius. Unfortunately, these are conditions that not many have.

Instead, you can bring the plant indoors. Here, we recommend providing a little extra artificial light and misting the plant with water from a spray bottle a couple of times a week.

When can I put my plants outside again?

We recommend waiting until after May 1st to put exotic plants back outside. That way, you can be sure that the night frost has passed.

When you put your plants back outside, it is important to protect them from the sun for the first couple of weeks. You can place them in the shade of the house or a large tree

Should I cut off the withered leaves?

Withered leaves are completely natural and not a sign that there is anything wrong with the plant. The old leaves wither and die to make room for new leaves. You do not need to cut the withered leaves off. That is only for your own sake. However, you risk harming the plant more than helping it if you cut the withered leaves off.

I have received my plant, but it is not what I expected.

We do our best to live up to expectations. But if you are in doubt or not satisfied, please feel free to send us an email. During the winter, you should be aware that most plants go dormant and may therefore look a bit sad. They will surely recover in the spring.

Should I feed my carnivorous plant?

No, you don't need to feed your carnivorous plants. They will manage to catch what they need themselves (even if they are on a windowsill)

My neem oil is clumping and seems spoiled?

Due to the cold-pressing process, the neem oil may clump and thicken at lower temperatures. Fortunately, it is easy to make it smooth and liquid again. Place it on a warm radiator or give it 2 x 15 seconds in a microwave. It should then become clear and liquid again. If you are in doubt, please feel free to contact us.

My Amorphophallus is withering and dying!

Don't worry. Amorphophallus dies back to a tuber every autumn (like many other plants). So this is completely normal. During this period, the tuber should be kept dry. When new growth appears, the tuber can be replanted and watering can be resumed.

Frog

Do you have any good tips for seed germination?

Yes. On the specific pages for each seed, there is a small guide for seed germination. In addition, we regularly write articles about the germination of various seeds. They can be seen here

My seeds still haven't sprouted, what do I do?

First and foremost, it is a matter of having patience. The time it takes for seeds to germinate can vary greatly. Remember to check the specific instructions for the exact seeds you have purchased. You can also take a look at the seeds to see if they still look fresh and healthy.

If a long time has passed and you have followed all instructions, a final option may be to "start over": Take the seeds out of the soil (or out of the bag). Dry them and put them in the freezer for about 4 weeks. Then start over and try again.

You are always welcome to contact us if you have any questions about your seeds and germination

Are there seeds from plants that can stay outside all year round?

Yes. Several of the seeds we have are for plants that can stay outside all year round. This applies, for example, to some of our palms (feel free to use the "outdoor palms" filter to find them). Otherwise, we can also mention pomegranate, loquat, and many carnivorous plants

Is there a warranty on seeds if they do not germinate?

No, unfortunately we do not have the option to do that. But you are always welcome to contact us if you have any questions

Is there a time of year that is best for sowing?

No. Seeds from exotic plants can be sown all year round. Some seeds take a long time to germinate, and it is therefore difficult to "time" their germination with the spring. Should there be seeds that germinate in the autumn or winter, we do, however, recommend some artificial light during the darkest months

How do I best store my seeds?

If you do not sow your seeds immediately, they are best stored in an airtight bag in the refrigerator

How deep should seeds be sown?

A good rule of thumb is to sow seeds at a depth that is approximately 2x the size of the seed. Small seeds, however, should usually only just be covered with soil.

My seeds might have been frostbitten?

During the winter season, we actively try to ensure that seeds do not freeze during transport. We do this by, among other things, not delivering your letters containing seeds to mailboxes, but to parcel shops instead. Furthermore, most seeds can actually tolerate a bit of frost, so it is not something you need to be concerned about. Should you have any doubts at all, please write to us.

What type of soil should I sow seeds in?

It is best to use soil without fertilizer for seed germination. We usually use a mixture of coconut coir and perlite

Animals

Can animals be sent by mail?

Yes - we regularly ship animals by post. We also ensure that the animals are packed securely and arrive in good condition.

In winter, there may be a need for a little extra warmth. During this period, we will add heating pads to orders containing animals

Is there a warranty on animals?

Yes, in part. We guarantee that your animals arrive alive and in good health. We also guarantee their survival for the first few weeks. Beyond that, however, we cannot provide a guarantee, as we cannot monitor the conditions under which they are kept

Which animals are best suited for a bioactive terrarium?

For the bioactive terrarium, we recommend the following animals:

Which animals can I use as feeder animals?

As good feeder insects, we can recommend:
