Activated charcoal

Activated charcoal is used to filter out harmful substances such as chemicals, heavy metals, mold, and more. It has long been used in aquarium filters, but is now also increasingly used in terrariums and mixed into soil blends. It is used, among other things, in many of our soil blends, just as we use it at the bottom of all our Unique terrariums.

What does "activated" mean in activated charcoal?

By heating the charcoal at very high temperatures, it expands. This creates a multitude of tiny air pockets and the surface area is significantly increased. This large surface area forms the basis for harmful substances and more to be absorbed.
