The well-known and tasty papaya originates from Mexico, from where it has subsequently spread as a crop to the entire world. Papaya is a smaller tree, most often with a single trunk, reaching up to 10 meters in height. The flowers, and later the papaya fruits, develop from the leaf sheaths themselves. This gives the papaya a characteristic appearance, with the fruits sitting close to the trunk. The trees do not live very long (for trees) and usually do not exceed 20 years of age.
Papaya fruits are large (up to 30 cm long) and oval. The color of the skin varies depending on the variety, but often starts out green and turns yellow/orange as the fruit ripens. The flesh is also usually yellow/orange and becomes softer the more mature the fruit is. The seeds are numerous and black, with a sticky protective layer around them.
The most common way to grow new papaya trees is from seeds. Fortunately, the fruits produce many seeds that germinate easily if they are fresh.
This is a dwarf variety that is well-suited for cultivation in pots.
