  • Latin name: Annona cherimola
  • Danish names: Cherimoya, sugar apple
  • English names: Cherimoya, chirimoya, chirimuya, custard apple
The cherimoya tree likely originated in Central America, but is now grown worldwide in tropical regions. It is cultivated primarily for its large, green, and flavorful fruits. The fruits have a distinctive appearance with what looks like overlapping green scales.

Seed germination

Soak in lukewarm water for 24 hours. Then sow the seeds in moist seed-starting soil or cactus soil. Alternatively, place the seeds between sheets of damp paper towel and put them in a sealed bag. Place in a warm, bright location.

Childcare

Annona cherimola must be planted in a pot, as it cannot tolerate frost. It can be kept outdoors in the summer and indoors in the winter. This is how we store our plants. In the winter, it tends to shed its leaves, which then grow back with the light.

- Place in a bright spot, preferably with some sun
- Prefers shelter from the wind
- Use good, nutrient-rich, and well-drained soil
- Fertilize during the growing season
