Avocado floater – grow your own avocado tree
Give an avocado pit a new life and follow its development from the first small root to a green avocado plant. The avocado floater is a simple and decorative way to sprout avocado pits in water – without the need for toothpicks or other homemade solutions. The floater is made of natural cork and is simply placed in a glass, vase, or another container filled with water. The avocado pit is inserted into the opening so that the bottom part is in contact with the water, while the cork ensures the pit is held in place at the surface. Over time, you can watch the roots grow down into the water while the sprout develops upward. This turns the sprouting process into a little living project that is fun to follow for both children and adults.
A small gift for the plant lover
The avocado floater is an obvious choice as a small gift for the plant enthusiast, for children with an interest in plants, or for anyone who enjoys experimenting with growing plants from seeds and pits. The floater is available in different versions, all based on the same simple principle.

How to sprout your avocado pit
-
Prepare the pit
Once you have eaten your avocado, remove the pit and wash it thoroughly. Then, carefully remove the thin, brown skin surrounding the pit.
-
Wrap the pit
Place the avocado pit in a piece of paper towel and moisten it well. Then, place the pit and the paper towel in a sealed bag or an airtight container. This is called the bag-sprouting method.
-
Let it sprout in the dark
Leave the pit in a dark place for about 4 weeks. Check on it occasionally and ensure the paper towel remains slightly damp. When the pit begins to crack and a small root appears, it is ready for the next step.
-
Place it in the avocado floater
Fill a glass, vase, or other suitable container with water. Place the avocado pit in the floater so that the root points downwards and is well-submerged in the water. The floater ensures that the pit stays at the water's surface while the root can develop freely.
-
Watch your avocado tree grow
Now, you just need a little patience. Soon a stem will begin to grow up from the pit, and eventually, the first green leaves will appear. Once the plant has developed several leaves and a good root system, it can be transplanted into a pot with soil and grown as a houseplant.
