  • Latin name: Punica granatum "nana"
  • Danish names: Granatæble, dværg granatæble
  • English names: Dwarf pomegranate

This is a smaller, dwarf variety of the common pomegranate tree (Punica granatum). The variety is also more hardy. Its growth is small and compact. In our latitudes, it sheds its leaves in the autumn, during which the leaves also turn a beautiful yellow color. In the spring, the beautiful new leaves appear again.

The flowers are large, red, and pomegranate-like. The fruits are small pomegranates (approximately 5 cm) and are reportedly edible, albeit very sour.

NOTE: It can be a bit slow to sprout its first leaves in the spring. So even if the tree looks dead, you should definitely not give up on it :)

Seed germination

Soak in lukewarm water for 24 hours. Then sow the seeds in moist seed compost or cactus soil. Alternatively, place the seeds between sheets of moist paper towel, which is then placed in a sealed bag. Place in a bright and warm location.
