FROST TOLERANT
- Latin name: Drosera filiformis
- Danish names: Trådbladet soldug, Soldug
-
English names: Sundew, thread-leaved sundew
Drosera filiformis is an exciting and unique carnivorous plant that naturally inhabits Canada and the USA. It differs from many other carnivorous plants in that its leaves are long and upright (filiform - thread-like). The leaves unroll in a manner similar to fern fronds.
Drosera filiformis performs best outdoors, where its very sticky leaves can catch an incredible amount of insects. Under strong sun, the leaves will turn redder. The delicate, light pink flowers are formed at the ends of long stalks. Several flowers can be produced throughout the season.
Winter dormancy
Like the Danish sundews, Drosera filiformis goes into winter dormancy. In late autumn, the leaves begin to die back, and the plant will overwinter as a resting bud. During this time, it should be kept slightly drier to prevent rotting. In the spring, the plant will begin to grow again.
