Delonix regia "Flavida" is an extremely rare, but stunningly beautiful, yellow-flowering variety of the Flame tree. Aside from the yellow flowers, the tree is grown and cared for exactly like the common Flame tree.

The Flame tree is originally from Madagascar, but it can now be found as an ornamental tree in many parts of the world. Many have likely seen the tree (or its enormous seed pods) while on holiday in southern regions. It is particularly known for its large, bean-like seed pods. The seed pods can reach up to 60 cm in length and are incredibly hard (and difficult to open).

The tree itself typically does not exceed 10 meters in height and develops large, fern-like leaves.

Seed germination

Stratify the seeds by sanding one end with a little sandpaper. Then place the seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours. Sow the seeds in moist seed compost or cactus soil. Alternatively, you can place them between moist paper towels, which are then placed in a plastic bag and kept in a bright location.

Childcare

Plant in a pot with well-draining potting soil (preferably mixed with a little sand). It does not like overwatering.
