A small group of cats have found their costumes and are ready for autumn's spookiest night.
This charming paper cutout consists of costumed cats, each with its own whimsical Halloween expression. A little cute, a little silly, and certainly not very scary - they are perfect as decorations for a cozy Halloween that welcomes both children and adults.
Decorate with the costumed cats
Cut out the small cats and let them pop up in different places around the home. Hang them on branches, place them among autumn decorations, or string several figures together to create your own Halloween garland.
They can also be attached to small sticks and used as decorations for cakes and muffins, or placed around the set Halloween table. If you add a small name, each cat can even become a unique place card.
Combine them with pumpkins, autumn leaves, branches, and candles for a Halloween atmosphere that is more cozy than spooky.
Hand-painted Danish paper cutout
The paper cutout is designed by Tall Hat Tales and has a charming, hand-painted look, where each of the costumed cats has its own personality.
The motif is, of course, perfect for Halloween, but the warm autumn colors also make it look great with the rest of your autumn decorations and natural materials.
Halloween and All Saints' Day – are they the same?
Halloween has become a fixed part of October for many Danish families, but Denmark actually has its own ancient tradition surrounding All Saints' Day.
The word Halloween comes from the English All Hallows' Eve – the evening before All Saints' Day. Modern Halloween has roots in several traditions and has, among other things, been linked to ancient Celtic customs. Through Irish and Scottish traditions in particular, the celebration developed further, and after emigration to North America, Halloween eventually took on many of the forms we know today with costumes, pumpkins, scary stories, and children going from door to door.
The Danish All Saints' Day tradition
All Saints' Day has been known in Denmark since the Middle Ages and was originally intended to commemorate the church's saints and martyrs.
After the Reformation, the tradition changed character, but All Saints' Day did not disappear. In the Danish National Church today, All Saints' Day is marked on the first Sunday in November, and many churches use the day to remember those who have died during the year. The names of the deceased may be read aloud, and candles are lit in their memory.
While modern Halloween has therefore become a festive evening with costumes, pumpkins, and thrills, the Danish All Saints' tradition has a more reflective starting point.
The two traditions are close to each other in the calendar and share a long history regarding the darkness, life, and death of autumn, but today they have taken on very different expressions.
