The kapok tree is a tropical tree native to Mexico and the central parts of America. The tree is grown primarily for its cotton-like material, which can be extracted from its seed pods. In recent years, kapok has become an incredibly popular material, especially in duvets and pillows, as it is hypoallergenic, natural, and organic.

The tree reaches up to 75 meters in height, making it one of the largest trees in the world. However, they remain significantly smaller if grown in a pot here at home. The trunks can reach up to 3 meters in diameter and be covered in thorns.

Kapok seeds germinate easily, but the tree can be difficult to keep alive during the first few years.
