  • Latin name: Passiflora quadrangularis
  • Danish names: Kæmpe grenadil
  • English names: Giant granadilla

Passiflora quadrangularis, or giant granadilla, is grown in the tropics for its large fruits. In this country, it is probably grown more for its truly beautiful flowers, as it requires a lot of heat and light to produce fully developed fruits.

In cool temperatures, the plant will die back, only to sprout again when the weather improves. However, it does not tolerate frost.

- Produces large, edible fruits

Germination of seeds

Pour lukewarm water over the seeds and then let them soak for 24 - 48 hours. Sow the seeds in moist seed compost or cactus soil. Alternatively, place the seeds between sheets of damp paper towel and put them in a sealed bag. Place in a warm, bright location.

Passion fruit seeds can generally take a long time to germinate. You can try to speed up the process by carefully filing the seeds with a nail file or fine sandpaper before soaking them.

Childcare

Plant in a pot that can be moved in and out depending on the weather.

- Place in a bright spot, preferably in some sun
