Passiflora starter kit – grow 8 different passion flowers from seeds

Grow your own collection of passion flowers entirely from seed. In this starter kit, we have collected seeds from 8 different Passiflora species along with specialized soil, pots, and liquid tropical fertilizer, so you have the essentials to get off to a good start.

Passiflora is a fascinating genus of plants with enormous variation in flowers, leaves, and growth. The characteristic flowers can range from elegant and almost simple to truly spectacular structures with long filaments, bold colors, and unusual shapes.

We assemble each starter kit from our current selection and strive to create as exciting a mix as possible with different flower shapes, colors, and species. Therefore, you will not necessarily receive the same Passiflora in every pack – but always 8 different ones.

The kit contains

  • Seeds of 8 different Passiflora species – assembled from our current selection with a focus on variation in colors, flower shapes, and appearance.
  • 8 pots – so the different species can be sown and grown individually.
  • Ficus soil – an airy and well-drained soil mix that is also suitable for Passiflora.
  • Liquid tropical fertilizer – for continued cultivation once the young plants are growing well.

Note: The image and any species shown are examples. The 8 Passiflora species are selected based on current stock and may therefore vary. We strive to assemble an exciting and varied package with different colors and flower shapes.

Grow Passiflora from seeds

Passiflora can be incredibly exciting to grow from seed, and the different species can behave very differently even during germination. The seeds often have a hard shell and can benefit from being soaked in lukewarm water for 24–48 hours before sowing. It is worth following the guide for Passiflora seeds.

Sow the seeds in the provided soil and place the pots in a warm, bright spot. Keep the soil slightly moist, but not wet. Heat is important during germination, and around 22–28 °C is suitable for many species.

Germination time varies greatly between species. Some Passiflora germinate relatively quickly, while others can take significantly longer. Therefore, do not give up even if nothing happens in the pot right away.

Eight species – many different expressions

Passiflora encompasses several hundred species, and it is precisely this diversity that makes the genus so exciting to collect. The flowers are found in shades including whitish, pink, red, purple, bluish, and greenish, and the crown's characteristic filament ring can vary wildly in both shape and color.

The leaves also vary from species to species. Some develop the well-known lobed Passiflora leaves, while others have more entire or differently shaped leaves. Over time, several species can also produce decorative – and in some species, edible – passion fruits.

From a small seed to a lush climbing plant

Passiflora are climbing plants and develop tendrils, which the plant uses to grasp its surroundings. As the plants grow, they will therefore benefit from a trellis, a stick, or other support to climb on.

Most species thrive in bright and warm conditions, and many can be kept outdoors in a sheltered spot throughout the summer. The included liquid tropical fertilizer can be used once the plants are established and in active growth.

The starter kit is perfect for you if you would like to discover the diversity within Passiflora – or if you find that the most fun part of exotic plants is following them all the way from seed. It also makes a great gift for a plant enthusiast who is looking for a new green project.
