Like other Passiflora edulis plants, this species also produces edible passion fruit. This is a specially bred variety that produces extra large, red fruits. The plant is also vigorous and prefers a trellis to grow up.

The plants are not frost-tolerant and require plenty of water and warmth during the growing season. It is therefore best to plant them in large pots that can be moved in and out depending on the weather. Must be overwintered in a warm and bright location.

Germination of seeds

Pour lukewarm water over the seeds and then let them soak for 24 - 48 hours. Then sow the seeds in moist seed compost or cactus soil. Alternatively, you can place the seeds between damp paper towels, which are then placed in a sealed bag. Place in a bright and warm location.

Passion flower seeds can generally take a long time to germinate. You can try to speed up the process by carefully filing the seeds with a nail file or fine sandpaper before soaking them.

Childcare

Best planted in a pot, which can be placed outdoors during the summer and in a sheltered spot during the winter.
