Latin name: Porcellio laevis
- Danish name: Glat grå bænkebider, isopod
- English name: Swift woodlouse, smooth slater, dairy cow isopod
- Variant: Dairy Cow
This is yet another incredibly popular isopod/woodlouse in the terrarium hobby. It grows slightly larger than, for example, Porcellionides pruinosus "orange" and also reproduces a bit more slowly, though still quite quickly. The original species, Porcellio laevis, is believed to originate from North Africa, but it is now found all over the world. Due to its popularity, many different color variants have been created. In this case, it is the "Dairy cow" color variant, as it resembles black-spotted dairy cattle with its white and black markings.
It reproduces quickly, has a certain size, and is quite hardy. Therefore, it is very popular both as a feeder animal and as a "clean-up crew" in bioactive terrariums and together with other hobby animals.
NOTE: Also available in an orange variant called "Orange".
