The String of Turtles (Peperomia prostrata) is a lovely little terrarium and houseplant originating from the Brazilian rainforest. It is a type of succulent, but the plant is adaptable to a multitude of different conditions. It therefore works very well as a terrarium plant in both forest and rainforest terrariums. In appearance, it can resemble Muehlenbeckia complexa. The leaves are, however, slightly smaller and thicker, and they can (with a bit of imagination) look a little like small turtles (hence its common name). You should not keep the String of Turtles for its flowers, as they are actually quite small and rather inconspicuous.
It is not seen very often, which is likely due to its slow growth rate. Personally, however, we think it is nice to have a plant that you do not constantly have to tend to with scissors.
Note: The photos are intended as examples of the plant and do not necessarily represent the exact plant being purchased.
