- Latin name: Drosera capensis "alba"
- Danish names: Soldug, Cape soldug, kap-soldug
-
English names: Sundew, cape sundew
Drosera capensis is arguably the most common sundew plant grown and kept as a houseplant. This is because it is very easy to care for, easy to propagate, and grows to a nice size and shape.
This carnivorous plant originally comes from the Cape in South Africa, from which it also gets its name. Like many other sundews, it requires plenty of light and water. The water must not contain lime and should therefore be watered with rainwater or demineralized water.
Several different variants of this sundew have been bred. In this case, it is the variant called "alba". Alba also means white, and is most often used for variants that lack pigment and therefore have a light/white appearance. Even the flowers are white.
