- Latin name: Drosera capensis "red"
- Danish names: Soldug, Cape soldug, kap-soldug
- English names: Sundew, cape sundew
Drosera capensis is arguably the most common sundew plant grown and kept as a houseplant. This is because it is very easy to care for, easy to propagate, and grows to a beautiful size and shape.
Originally, this carnivorous plant comes from the Cape in South Africa, from which it also derives its name. Like many other sundews, it requires plenty of light and water. The water must not contain lime and should therefore be watered with rainwater or demineralized water.
Quite a few different varieties of this sundew have been bred. In this case, we are talking about the incredibly beautiful red variant called "red". The plant has extra red pigment, which is particularly expressed in plenty of light. The flowers are also extra colorful.
