Grow plants from seeds
There is something satisfying about growing your own plants from seeds. You get the opportunity to follow the entire development of the plant and learn its growth from the very beginning.
Some seeds germinate quickly, while other exotic species require more time, warmth, or special treatment before sowing. It is part of the experience – and often, the plants that require a little extra patience are also some of the most exciting to succeed with.
We therefore always recommend researching the needs of the individual species before you start sowing. -
How to succeed with plant seeds
There is a big difference in how different plant seeds should be treated, but some basic principles recur.
The most important are:- Use a clean and suitable sowing medium
- Ensure the right temperature for the species
- Keep the soil moist without making it constantly wet
- Give the sprouts sufficient light
- Be patient – some seeds take significantly longer to germinate than others
Some seeds also benefit from soaking, cold treatment, or light sanding of the seed coat before sowing. It depends entirely on the plant. Always read the instructions carefully.

Frequently Asked Questions about plant seeds
What is the best way to sow seeds?
It depends on the individual plant species. Many seeds can be sown directly in moist seed-starting medium and placed in a warm, bright location, while others require, for example, soaking or cold treatment first.
It is therefore always a good idea to research the germination requirements for the specific species.
We most often use the baggy method when germinating seeds.
How long do plant seeds take to germinate?
Some plant seeds germinate in a few days or weeks, while others can take several months (a few even years). Temperature, humidity, the freshness of the seeds, and the plant species itself have a major impact on the germination time.
For each species, the approximate time it takes for a seed to germinate is indicated.
Can you grow exotic plants from seeds in Denmark?
Yes. Many exotic plants can easily be grown from seed in Denmark, as long as they are given the right conditions. For tropical species, this often means that germination must take place indoors with warmth and good light.
Which plant seeds are easiest for beginners?
It depends on your circumstances, but seeds that germinate quickly and do not require any special pre-treatment are usually the easiest to start with. Once you have gained experience with germination, you can move on to species with more specific requirements. Under each species, the level they are suited for is usually indicated. There are also plenty of seeds for the beginner :)
Do you sell organic plant seeds?
If seeds are organically certified, this should be clearly stated on the individual product. Not all exotic plant seeds are available as certified organic seeds. However, this does not necessarily mean that they come from sprayed plants. For example, our own seeds from Avernakø come from plants that have not been sprayed or grown with conventional fertilizer.
